Requirements for Domestic RHI

There are a number of requirements that must be met in order to claim the Domestic RHI:

 

  • The property must be capable of getting a domestic Energy Performance Certificate.

  • The renewable heating system must heat a single property. (to prove that your property is a domestic 'dwelling'.

  • The property is not a listed building.

  • The property is not located in a Conservation area.

  • The property does not house any protected species.

  • An eligible Renewable Heating system must be installed.

  • Biomass and heat pump systems must provide space heating or space and water heating.

  • The renewable heating system must hold a valid MCS certificate and be installed by an MCS certified installer.

  • The renewable heating system must have a commissioning date after 15 July 2009.

  • You must have paid a part towards your renewable heating system.

  • You must own or occupy the property that the renewable heating system is in.

  • You must have loft and cavity wall insulation installed. (See RHI exemption)

What renewable heating systems are eligible?

Currently there are four eligible renewable heating system types. These are:

 

  • Biomass only boilers, and biomass pellet stoves

  • Flat plate and evacuated tube solar thermal panels.

  • Air source heat pump.

  • Ground source heat pump.

 

What makes you exempt?

Under some circumstances, you are unable to install insulation to your property. Under these circumstances, you may become exempt from having to install insulation.
